ABSTRACT

Stem and root anatomy of Ammi visnaga [Linn.] Lam. [Khaizaran, Khellah [Arabic] was investigated. Anatomy of the stem consists of collenchyma and parenchyma cells, their number increases in mature stage. Simultaneously there may be an increase in the number of vascular bundles which are of collateral type, pith consists of parenchymatous cells which become larger inward. Root having hypodermis and parenchyma cells. The vascular bundles are scattered in the centre. Protoxylem toward the periphery while metaxylem toward the centre. The powdered drugs of root showing epidermis, part of medullary rays, reticulate thickened vessels with oil globules, bordered pitted vessels and fibers of various size. The stem showing simple epidermis with stomata, fragments of eqidermis showing striation and pigments. Phloem parenchyma, fragments of bordered pitted vessels and reticulate vessels having different size in the powdered drug under the microscope. Powdered drug of leaf showing stomata in the epidermis, spiral tracheids, palisade cells and group of rounded spongy mesophyll cells and fiber
